Well, there was a lot of crap thrown at this movie, and I don't think it made nearly as much as the producers had hoped, but I finally saw it today, and I didn't think it was that bad. I actually really liked it.
It's amusing that they're promoting Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman as the "stars" of the film, since they're barely in it. Kidman is at least a crucial character, but Craig is barely more than a glorified cameo. But I guess a little girl and some CGI animals aren't really much of a selling point, are they?
There were complaints that it was too dense and hard to understand. I didn't think so at all. Well, yes, it was dense. There was obviously a lot going on. But I didn't have trouble following it, and appreciated having to pay attention and not having the story dumbed down. In fact, it was intriguing enough that I really want to read the books now. (Especially since it may have not made enough money to warrant a sequel) I'm sure they had to cut stuff out to make the movie, so I'm interested to see if certain subplots are fleshed out in the book.
Too bad it's too late to put them on my Christmas list!
